I had a series of scans yesterday morning. The scans were clear! This is good news for me. It's been 6 months since I've had chemo. I've been treated very aggressively for the cancer with chemo, surgery, and radiation this year, but I have not had scans in several months. So this is great!

Unfortunately, this does not take away from the fact that I do have stage 4 (terminal) cancer. In response to this diagnosis, my oncologist and MD Anderson suggests that the next step is to take a 6 month oral cycle of chemo that is appropriate for my triple negative cancer diagnosis. The thought process behind this is that if there are any new cancer cells that did not show on the scans, the chemo will hopefully kill them. I go to a "chemo class" on Friday to learn more about taking this chemo pill.

I posted on Facebook on Sunday that I would be having scans the next morning. I was overwhelmed by the hundreds of you who indicated you would pray for me. I cannot thank you enough. The peace, presence, and joy of the Lord were overwhelming through all the testing yesterday. I am thankful that you have chosen to take this journey with me.

I'm happy to say that I have been able to return to church as of October 4. It's been way too long to be apart from my faith family. I'm taking proper precautions, and my pastors have led the church to love each other well through wearing masks, social distancing, and constant cleaning of the building . I'm thankful for Matt and Augie.

I love y'all. Be safe during this time.

Grace & Peace,

Melissa
